Miller has Woosters top effort at Revere

When the Wooster High girls cross country headed north to Revere to compete August 27, it knew it was headed into tough competition.
The meet didnt disappoint. Brunswick won the race with 53 points, trailed by Hudson (82) and Jackson (101) to account for the top three spots. Wooster was 15th in the 18-team field, scoring 391 points.
Senior Claire Miller turned in a 21-minute flat performance to lead the Generals, placing 33rd overall in the highly competitive field. Her sister, Lauren, was fifteen spots behind her as the sophomore posted a 21:22 clocking as she finished 48th.
Rebecca Kreuzman (116) and Vicki Anderson (117) were the next two runners in as they posted identical times of 23:37, while Kaitlyn Aukerman (132nd) rounded out the top five runners with a time of 24:04. Jackie White and Hannah Doan were close behind, with White finishing 135th (24:18) and Doan 139th (24:24).
This was the second time Claire has been there, so she knew what to expect. It was good competition for her, said WHS coach Nikki Reynolds. We were still a little sore from racing Tuesday at Mapleton and a little tired. The girls were fatigued from being in school and band and doing the workouts. I told them to give themselves two weeks and their bodies would be acclimated to going to school and homework. Its easier to compete when you are not in school.
They were talking about the team packing and moving the pack to Claire to get the team score lower.
Natalie Gustafson crossed the finish line with a 25:35 (154), Erin Johnson (155) had a PB time of 25:38 and Alli Wigham (156) finished in 25:41 to round out the Generals top-10 performers.
In the Open race, Gabrielle Sibilia finished with a time of 23:28, which placed her 24th, while Sarah Sanford turned in a 27:01 (160) and Sarah Veneys 28:35 was good for 196th.
They scored the meet normally – the top five scored and sixth and seventh displaced (other runners), said Reynolds. Its early in the season, so its an opportunity to have 10 athletes run, which is nice.
There were some quality teams there. Its the first time Jackson and Lake (9th, 252 points) were there. It was a well-run meet. It was down in the valley and very nice.
Wooster will travel to Avon Lake September 3.
