Millersburg Welcomes Santa Clause

It’s been a long year, especially for those waiting to see the jolly guy with the rosy red cheeks, the big jolly laugh, who wears a red suit with black boots, and who has a long white beard. For all of those who have a Christmas wish list, the wait is over on Friday, November 26, 2010. Santa Clause will be returning to Millersburg on a horse drawn wagon all the way down Jackson Street. The date was recently changed from Saturday, November 27 because Santa wanted to get to town before the Ohio State and Michigan football game making Friday evening the perfect time to bring the family downtown. Santa’s ride starts at Millersburg Elementary School and goes all the way to the old CSB building. After arriving in town, Santa will sit in his favorite chair at the CSB building so that he can hear children’s Christmas wishes from 6:15 to 8 p.m. or until all of the children have given their best wishes for Christmas 2010. While the children are visiting Santa, it will be a good time for the family to visit the Pomerene Auxiliary Christmas Tree Festival display. A variety of trees and wreaths that have been donated by local businesses will be on display. It will be the last day of the tree display which is free to the public. If visitors get to the CSB building to see the trees during the day, there may be trees still available for purchase. “It is really a neat atmosphere especially after dark. The downtown is decorated and many of the stores will be open late. And, the tree display is really beautiful,” said Tom Wilke, manager of the Historic Downtown Millersburg organization. Seasonal music will be playing downtown with many stores offering visitors refreshments and holiday gift specials. Carriage rides will also be available for $5 a rider. The rides begin in front of The Hotel Millersburg. There is also a children’s coloring contest that the kids can enter by picking up coloring pages throughout many of the stores. It all makes for the perfect event to get the family into the holiday spirit. “Last year the line of kids to speak to Santa was well over a block long,” said Wilke. Bringing Santa to town to kickoff the holiday season has been hosted by Historic Downtown Millersburg for at least the past five years.
