Mount Eaton Moonlight Sale Offers Bargains Galore

Now that the turkeys have been carved and pumpkin pies devoured, the focus for many area residents has shifted to Christmas holiday preparations and shopping. The merchants of Mount Eaton have banded together again this year to offer an attractive alternative to the crowded malls and department stores with their 3rd Annual Moonlight Sale on Thursday, December 2. From 3-8 p.m., Mount Eaton-area businesses will offer special discounts and customer appreciation sales, along with tickets to enter a prize drawing. For every twenty dollars of merchandise purchased, shoppers will receive one ticket for the drawing. “We’ll be giving away $500 in Mount Eaton Bucks that can be redeemed at participating businesses any time before April 1, 2011. Two $100, two $75, two $50 and two $25 prizes will be awarded,” said Paul Mullet. Mullet is president of the Mount Eaton Business Association, which sponsors the event. The drawing will be held at Mount Eaton Hardware at 8:30 p.m. on December 2. It is not necessary to be present to win, and there may be only one winner per address. The Moonlight Sale is a community effort. “The local businesses are trying to help each other out,” Mullet said. “We’re encouraging people to shop close by and get what they need locally. Nearly all the retailers in the village will be running specials from 3-8. It’s our mini version of Black Friday.” Chad Lorentz is chair of the Moonlight Sale planning committee. “Last year’s event was definitely good for the retail businesses,” he said. “Each year, more people are learning to know about it, and waiting for those times to make their purchases. They can save money by staying in town, have a chance to win gift certificates, and it keeps the money in town too, so everyone wins. “People could do their shopping in Wooster, Massillon, etc., but we’re trying to encourage them to shop right here in Mount Eaton,” Lorentz said. Mullet was enthusiastic about the spirit of cooperation among the retailers. “It’s great to see the local businesses working together like this,” he said. “That’s what’s so great about a small community—we all work together.” The Mount Eaton Business Association sponsors other events throughout the year, including a Spring Sale and the annual Mount Eaton Days in June. Funds raised during the Mount Eaton Days volleyball tournament along with additional donations from local businesses allow the group to provide Thanksgiving dinners for around 20 families in the community who would be otherwise unable to afford them, Mullet said. Among the businesses participating in this year’s Moonlight Sale will be D&R Engine, Hilltop Market, Mount Eaton Elevator, Mount Eaton Greenhouse, Mount Eaton Harness Shop, Mount Eaton Hardware, Spector's Store, The Pier, The Sports Line, S&M Bike Shop, Mountain Top Restaurant, First National Bank, Evergreen RV Park, Advantage Tax Service, the Mount Eaton Post Office, and Dr. James Gesiotto, Dentist.
