The Mt. Eaton Business Association is offering a packed schedule for this year’s Mt. Eaton Days festival starting on Friday, June 10th. The day has been planned to offer visitors a day of bargain hunting at the many garage sales around town. Some of the garage sales open as early as 6 a.m. The Mt. Eaton Days festival has been going on yearly since 1994 and is located throughout the downtown section of Mount Easton. Local businesses and merchants get together to host, plan and put on the events. The entire two-day festival is packed with activities, lots of good food, a consignment auction, a kid’s carnival and the annual volleyball tournaments. It all begins on Friday morning with the community wide garage sales. In addition to those bargains, various vendors will be setup around town and local businesses will be offering special sales on both days. Visitors can hitch a ride on a horse drawn wagon to get around town during both days. Staying with tradition, Friday evening visitors will be able to attend the annual volleyball tournaments starting with the girl’s teams from 5 to 9 p.m. The volleyball games continue on Saturday, June 11th with the co-ed volleyball tournaments starting at 9 a.m. Saturday is also packed full of activities including a consignment auction at the Town Hall scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There are plenty of new and used items scheduled for sale. For those who want to put items into the sale, those items need to be dropped off at the Town Hall on Friday. “We do sell new and used items at the consignment sale but we also reserve the right to turn down an item of little or no value,” said John Miller from the Mt. Eaton Hardware who is also a member of the business association. There will be many door prizes given away right after the auction ends. A few of the door prizes include a one night stay at Evergreen RV Park, a leaf blower and lots of gift certificates from various merchants ranging from $25 to $100. Also scheduled for Saturday is a kid’s carnival from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First National Bank for various ages groups including little ones up to teenagers. The carnival will have games, balloons, giveaways, a duck pond and bean bag throw among other games and fun activities. There will also be cookies, chips, pretzels and punch. The annual chicken barbeque is scheduled on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Town Hall. They will be selling quarter chickens and meals. All proceeds from the chicken BBQ will benefit the Historical Society. A sampling of the vendors setup around town for the two-day festival include Lerch’s Donuts, kettle corn, homemade ice cream stands, and some flea market type vendors. The featured vendor for the weekend will be Dr. James Gesiotto who recently moved into a new building. “The street vendors are setup on the street between the Mt. Easton Hardware and the Town Hall,” Miller said. Businesses in the area will be offering discounts and special sales including Mt. Eaton Hardware. They will be having a paint sale and will be giving 10 percent off store-wide during the festival days. There will be plenty of parking around town including at Evergreen Park and the school. Festival goers are welcome to ride one of the horse drawn wagons from their parking area to the downtown events. For those around town that will be participating in the garage sales, registration is NOT required but if a garage sale is registered, it gets put on a map that visitors can stop in and view. Proceeds from the Mt. Eaton Days festival go to providing a Thanksgiving dinner to local families in need. Also, monies will go to purchase Christmas presents for those in need.
