Summary: New Philadelphia’s Class of 2011 was able to boast of having multiple blessings this year in the form of a trio of triplets and four sets of twins in the senior class. Senior year of high school is full of big things. Senior Prom, senior trip, school fees, concerts, sporting events and school plays, club activities, senior portraits, choosing a college, purchasing a cap, gown, and tassel, and of course, the celebratory graduation party. This keeps a parent busy. But when you multiply it by three, the numbers can be staggering. Michael and Sherri Norman of New Philadelphia know this all too well, as their triplet daughters have just completed their senior year at New Philadelphia High School. “Ever since they were born, it’s been three high chairs, three bikes, and now three college educations,” said Michael Norman at his daughters’ graduation party. “We dressed them all the same when they were little, but they are completely different. Completely different likes, personalities, all that” The girls are attending Akron University in the fall. Not only were their high school years unique to each, but so also are their future plans. Stephanie Norman intends to study hospitality and management at the University. “I did a lot of drawing in high school. I didn’t do sports, but I rode horses competitively as part of the interscholastic equestrian team, and we went all over Ohio and competed. That was my focus. I also took part in Student Council, Science Club, and Key Club. I’m looking forward to going to college, having fun, meeting people, and eventually getting into a really good job and starting my future,” commented the petite brunette. “I am president of Key Club, vice president of National Honor Society, in Delphian Chorale, and Student Council. I also take voice classes,” said Carli Norman, whose 4.2 GPA earned her salutatorian status in her graduating class. “At college, we are going to split apart so we can be independent and be ourselves. We might get a house together after that, but we are not sure.” “I want to go into biomedical engineering, and perhaps work with prosthetics, as that is a growing field,” added Carli. Ashley Norman is attending Akron with an eye toward possibly becoming a physical therapist. She admits that she is the sporty one of the trio. “I was in softball and in volleyball, but also Student Council, National Honor Society, Key Club, and stuff like that. My favorite thing in high school was just having fun and being with friends, and sports – lots of sports,” noted Ashely. “At first we didn’t want to all go together to the same school, but its kind of good we’ll be there for each other. But we’ll also go our separate ways, too.” Dad Michael smiled across the yard at his daughters. “It’s really kind of a bittersweet thing. The girls have done great in high school, and our house is going to be changed quite a bit once they leave in the fall, so its’ kind of scary right now. Their younger brother, Anthony, is 13. The girls each have their own rooms, so Anthony has plans for those,” said Michael, chuckling at the thought. “They do not want to room together. They want to have their own identities. They prefer to be known as Ashley, Stephanie, and Carli, not ‘the triplets’. They are really quadruplets,” commented mother Sherri. The girls’ brother, Nathan, died before birth, and the Normans feared losing the girls as well. “Yesterday Stephanie put on her Facebook, ‘this is to my brother, Nathan Michael, and I wish that you would be there next to us, standing there on graduation day,” noted their mother, tearing at the thought. “It will be very quiet at our house this fall. I am going to miss them desperately,” added Sherri quietly. “They were fed the same things, they went to the same schools, they had the same teachers, but they are three, unique, beautiful personalities. That’s because God created them that way. I am thrice blessed.” In addition to the Norman sisters, there were also four sets of twins in the NPHS class of 2011: Jason and Jeremy Gordon, Lilia and Lanie Reber, Kim and Kelly Rippeth, and Tyler and Tucker Stein.
