Passing the Test - WCH Lab Offers Speed, Quality, Convenience

Most of us will have lab work done at some point in our lives, yet we rarely stop to think about what a critical diagnostic tool it is. “Seventy percent of medical decisions involve lab work,” said Edward Tirakis, Manager of Wooster Community Hospital’s Laboratory Services Department. “There is hardly a person who comes through the door that we don’t do some lab work on.” Last year, the department performed over 61,000 venipunctures (blood draws) and 484,000 lab procedures. Many of those were chemical profiles comprised of multiple tests, so the actual number of individual tests was well over a million, Tirakis said. “We do a lot down here in this lab!” For the convenience of their patients, Laboratory Services offers three different lab draw locations: the Outpatient Ground Floor East Building at the hospital (Monday through Saturday); Milltown Professional Building (Monday through Friday) and the Outpatient Center East on Eagle Pass Road (Monday through Thursday). The Eagle Pass location tends to be the least busy, Tirakis said. “If you’ve ever had to wait to get blood drawn, try Eagle Pass." Interfaces with nearly 30 local physicians’ offices provide doctors with immediate access to test results. Patients can log on to the WCH eCare portal at www.woosterhospital.org and view their own results as well. For more information on Laboratory Services at WCH, call (330) 263-8552.
