Summary: The Holmesville restaurant serves up honest food for every eater
Main Story: Picture this: a plate heavily laden with a tender, hand-marinated strip steak and a heaping mound of steaming crab legs, awaiting the lucky fork and knife that will cut and devour this culinary masterpiece.
Is this an upscale eatery where plates run upwards of $40 and attire is strictly formal? Is this New York, Cleveland or maybe even Wooster?
Not quite.
This delectable dish can be found at Holmesville, Ohio at Pauls Steakhouse and Beer Garden where the food is hot, the beer is cold and nothing on the menu is over $30.
When Paul Williams decided to transform the old Holmesville Inn into a steakhouse, he revamped the place in structure and in character, installing a brand new kitchen to remake the former bar and grill into a true restaurant.
An impressive menu is a testament to that change. Start out with the fried clams, or sample the banana peppers stuffed with five different cheeses and grilled to perfection. But save room for the main event, for steak is the star of this carnivorous menu. Diners can dig into a T-bone, porterhouse, ribeye or strip steak, with choices of 12, 16 or 24 ounces, depending on the cut.
The steaks are doused in Pauls signature sweet bourbon marinade to give the meat a smoky flavor. Each steak is lovingly marinated in the signature sauce, then vacuum-sealed to lock in every last ounce of moisture before being grilled over a radiant broiler for a perfect char. The result is a mouth-watering meal that keeps customers coming back for more.
If diners prefer a little seafood with their sirloin, the aforementioned Surf-N-Turf is the way to go. Have the strip and crab legs or indulge in a 14-ounce ribeye with 8-ounces of lobster tail.
The menu also features pork chops, ribs and chicken. Wings served with tangy sauces like garlic, mild and BBQ are a specialty, and on Wing Night Wednesdays they go, and go fast, for only 25 cents each. From homemade pizza to breaded shrimp baskets to double bacon cheeseburgers, Pauls has it all.
Entrees are served with a roll and a choice of two sides, including Pauls Famous Coleslaw, a unique blend of slaw with a dash of vinegar and two types of sauce.
And if such robust flavors are too heavy for the petite palate, the kids menu has alternative selections for smaller appetites.
The restaurant is also known for its knack for selling the coldest beer around. The sizeable beer list features reasonably priced domestic, imported and draft beers and on Thirsty Thursdays, all domestic beers are only $2.
Pauls also features a lively entertainment scene with a DJ, live bands and comedians on weekends. Sports enthusiasts can always watch televisions tuned to the big game and for a more relaxed evening, diners can take advantage of the outdoor patio for a more private dining experience.
