SUMMARY: Woman had been following ex-boyfriend, threatening to kill herself. Charges have been forwarded to the prosecuting attorney's office. Charges have been forwarded to the prosecuting attorney’s office in a May 21 slow-speed chase that started when a Beach City woman began following her ex-boyfriend, threatening suicide. Holmes County Sheriff’s Capt. Dale Renker said the woman, who is 47 years old, was taken to a mental health facility after being taken into protective custody by deputies. The woman had a loaded firearm in her vehicle when she was stopped, Renker said. The incident began when the woman’s former boyfriend was driving a work truck in the Brewster area. He reported that she was following him in a black Dodge SUV, threatening to kill herself. She followed the ex-boyfriend into Holmes County, where she led deputies on a “slow-speed chase” Renker said, with speeds ranging 35 to 40 miles per hour. The woman did not pull over when signaled by deputies to do so, but continued following her ex-boyfriend’s truck, Renker said. The ex-boyfriend pulled off state Route 39 onto County Road 623 about a mile west of Millersburg and stopped in a parking lot. The woman followed him in. Renker said the woman refused to exit the Dodge. Deputies could see the firearm on the passenger seat, Renker said, and the passenger side window was smashed in an attempt to unlock the doors. After being removed from the Dodge, the woman was transported to Pomerene Hospital, where she was evaluated and taken to a mental health facility, Renker said. Renker said there were no injuries reported in the incident. The woman “wasn’t threatening to hurt (the ex-boyfriend), but she was threatening to hurt herself”, Renker said. Millersburg Police assisted deputies, having been contacted when the pursuit neared town.
