Summary: A satellite office in Millersburg makes it easier than ever for residents to speak directly to an Independent Living Specialist from the Society for Equal Access Independent Living Center. Society for Equal Access Independent Living Center (SEA-ILC) is a consumer controlled cross disability not for profit organization operated by individuals with disabilities for people with disabilities. Since 1990 the organization has assisted residents in eight counties including Holmes County. As the need for services increases SEA-ILC has found ways to be more accessible to consumers in the region. A satellite office has been set up at the Holmes County Public Library at 3102 Glen Dr. at Millersburg on the first Monday of each month to better serve local residents. The only exception is the month of September when the satellite office will be open on the second Monday of the month. Office hours will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or by appointment. “This is a centralized location where people can come and speak directly to me,” said Robert Fair, Independent Living Specialist with SEA-ILC. “We serve disabled people who don’t know where to go for help. Maybe they’re in danger of having their electricity turned off or maybe they need assistance with housing.” SEA-ILC has a variety of services and programs that consumers are encouraged to utilize. The Independent Living Center concentrates on four core services that include advocacy, independent living skills, information/ referral, and peer support. Programs like Adult Living Skills, Youth-in-Transition, and Adaptive Aids for Hearing Impairment and Low Vision Services help consumers with disabilities lead fuller, richer lives. Funded through private, state and federal contributions, the mission of SEA-ILC is to assist individuals to become more independent within our community. To find out more about SEA-ILC’s services please call 330-343-9292 ext. 224.
