Summary: For one Strasburg woman, almost two decades of hard work as a cosmetic company consultant have earned her the right to drive a new Chevy Cruz, compliments of Mary Kay. When Bonnie Jones of Strasburg decided to take on a position with a direct sales company almost twenty years ago, she did it with the immediate in mind. “I loved the Mary Kay products and used them myself, and I also wanted some extra income,” she admitted. “It seemed to be a good fit.” Now, 19 ½ years later, Jones has 54 of the cosmetic company consultants working under her independent sales director supervision, and has been awarded the prize that the company is known for – the use of a Mary Kay car through the company’s Career Car incentive program. The vehicle was delivered recently to Ferris Chevrolet Buick Cadillac Toyota in New Philadelphia, where Jones took possession of the white Chevy Cruz through the Mary Kay “co-op lease” while her husband Dave, family members, team and national sales director, Esther Whiteleather, cheered. Whiteleather, of northeast Ohio, noted that there are a total of 890 consultants on her team, including Jones and her associates. The national sales director drove her own pink Mary Kay Escalade SUV to the event. In order to enter the program, a director, along with the recruits on her team, must maintain a certain level of sales within specific time periods and sales must be kept at certain levels to maintain the free monthly use of the car. “I remember handling some Mary Kay cars being presented when we were in Coshocton,” said Ferris Chevrolet general manager Pat Ferris. “But I don’t remember presenting one here in New Philadelphia before. There is a lot of time and a great deal of hard work that goes into these ladies earning a Mary Kay car.” The Career Car program includes the Chevy Cruze in white, Chevy Equinox crossover in black, Toyota Camry in black, Ford Mustang in black and the iconic pearlized pink Cadillac. "Cars earned by the Independent sales force through this exciting program serve as a symbol of their hard-work and success in their Mary Kay businesses, said Darrell Overcash, president of Mary Kay Inc. U.S. in a press release. "For fifty years, Mary Kay has continued to provide a rewarding opportunity selling irresistible products, changing the lives of women around the world." The program began in 1969, and has had 141,000 independent consultants awarded or re-awarded the cars. 5,927 cars are currently on the road. “It was time for the trophy on wheels,” said an obviously thrilled Jones as she posed by the car with her husband, new keys in hand. “I had actually qualified three times in the past, but always took the cash alternative instead. But now I’m at a point, qualifying for the fourth time, that I decided I wanted the Chevy Cruz. I went for the car!” Mary Kay Cosmetics operates in 35 markets around the world, with annual global wholesale sales of $3 billion.
