Summary: A special $2 admission proved to be popular in bringing in visitors on Thursday of the 2012 Tuscarawas County Fair Thursday at the Tuscarawas County Fair was bright and beautiful. Thanks to the generosity of Kissel Brothers Amusements, J&J Refuse and the Senior Fair Board, admission for the day was just $2. The Community Day special, which is in its second year, allows more individuals to experience the fair. A Junior Fair English horse show and the junior fair dairy and market goat show kicked off the morning’s activities to a packed swine arena crowd. The always popular open draft horse hitch show entertained grandstand crowds at 10 AM. Following the regular goat show, the miniature goats, referred to as ‘pygmy’ goats, moved into the swine arena to be put through their paces. On fair parking was overflowing as hundreds of buyers arrived for the 4 PM Market Livestock Sale, which is a Junior Fair highlight each year. Total sales for the lambs, steers, and hogs brought into the ring by 4-H participants was a record setting $508,940.60. “We have also been busy at the Clover Café,” noted Café bookkeeper Janet Kemp. “We are right up there with 2011 Café numbers for the amount of money coming in.” “It was packed on the Midway all day, well into the night,” added Barb Airgood of the Junior Fair Board Office. “There were tons of Senior Citizens here all day for Community Day, with the $2 admission fee definitely bringing in the crowds.”
