But now you don’t have to book an expensive flight, hotel, or cruise to enjoy the same quality performances that thrill audiences in America’s top entertainment cities. They’re right here in Ohio. Although the Amish Country Theater’s 2012 production was a smash hit (with a total audience of over 10,000), its producers have raised the bar with an all-new sidesplitting show for 2013. This new show—dubbed “The Original Amish Country Theater Variety Show” and featuring live bluegrass music, ventriloquists, hilarious actors, and comedians—rivals any professional production you’ll see between New York and Branson. About The Show This live, family-friendly variety show “will have you laughing until you reach the parking lot.” This original production is reminiscent of the popular TV show “Hee Haw,” but updated to appeal to today’s audiences, and sprinkled (respectfully) with Amish culture. The diverse and witty characters put on a show that appeals to grandparents, parents and kids—a remarkable feat given the high-sensory experiences audiences have come to expect. Hosting the performance is Ken Groves, a nationally recognized ventriloquist. Ken has made 12 television appearances and has performed for packed audiences from Las Vegas, to Japan, and everywhere in between. A crowd favorite, Lynyrd, is a spotlight-stealing country bumpkin who is as unpredictable as an Ohio spring. And the Amish characters “The Jonas Brothers” use their quirky mannerisms to serve up hilarious one-liners about farm living. Combined with the rest of the cast and musicians, audiences enjoy a value-packed two-hour variety show. Did someone say musicians? Saltcreek Bluegrass Although most families can’t agree on which radio station to listen to in the car, every generation gets its toes tappin’ to the finger-pickin’, three-part harmonies of Saltcreek Bluegrass—the renowned house band of the Amish Country Theater. Featured throughout the show, the band continually impresses audiences with a performance that could easily stand alone as its own bluegrass concert. Songs like “Pistol Packin’ Mamma,” “Gloom, Despair” and “Rocky Top” will have you whistling in the car on your drive home. A State-of-the-Art Theater The Disney-like venue that hosts this hilarious production is a 325-seat theater designed to trigger your imagination by creating the illusion that you are stepping into an authentic Amish barn—except this barn features state-of-the-art sound, lighting, and effects. As a result, audiences experience the production at the highest level. The climate-controlled theater features comfortable movie theater-style seating and easily accommodates wheelchairs and scooters. Peckish patrons may even purchase homemade treats and desserts at the “Barnyard Fixin’s” stand just outside the theater adjacent to the box office. Christmas in the Country Enjoy the narrative of the rich history of Christmas carols and learn about Amish Christmas traditions. John Schmid, a Nashville recording artist, performs music that will take you on a journey from the origination of Christmas traditions, to the music that we love and enjoy today. The evening is guaranteed to entertain, and leave you with a new appreciation for the songs and traditions of Christmas. Christmas in the Country performances begin November 30.
