Summary: DayBreak Community Church in Wooster will be offering a group for college age community members. The Crusade will offer bible study, fellowship opportunities and service projects for members. The purpose is to help this age group reconnect with their faith and have a support group of peers. A crusade involves a mission of some kind. As crusades develop, energy channels through each member, providing a vessel to create change and accomplish goals. The Crusade at DayBreak Community Church, 342 Nold Ave. in Wooster, is no different. The Crusade’s objective is to offer a Bible study and support group to young adults in the community. While the group is starting small, a little bit of energy can have a lot of power. Richard Frazier, pastor of DayBreak Community Church, and Jessica Stevens, leader of The Crusade, determined that college age students, between the ages of 18 and 30, could no longer participate in youth groups, but can still be too young for adult bible study groups, which may focus on marriage and children. As a result of this divide, many college age students lose touch with their faith and church. The purpose of The Crusade is to offer members a new platform to participate in church and to provide a group of peers to help navigate the journey of faith. According to Stevens, The Crusade consists of three elements: fellowship, Bible study and service projects. Beginning Oct. 5 at DayBreak Community Church at 7 p.m., the group will meet three Saturdays out of the month. Two of the three meetings will focus on bible study and the third will be a fellowship activity. “Some people just really need a support group. We’re not there to judge or condemn anyone. We’re there to bring the word of God and help everyone grow in their relationship and faith and grow in relationships together,” Stevens explained. She added that no one should feel intimidated by a lack of knowledge of the Bible. Stevens herself has spent the last couple of months reconnecting with her faith. “My main emphasis is that it is a support group too. We’re going to be there for you. Everyone is here to care about everyone else,” Stevens said. Stevens said the goal is to acquire between 20 and 30 members. The Crusade is reaching out to nearby schools, such as Wayne College, The College of Wooster and ATI in an effort to draw in group members. The Crusade is not limited to college students, however. Anyone falling in the age range can attend. “We also understand there are nontraditional students as well. We want to hit all our bases and make sure we’re not excluding anyone,” Stevens said. She plans to assure the group is fun and that members are enjoying themselves. Stevens aspires to give back to the community through the group. “I am excited for this opportunity to offer a group to young adult Christians that want to gather and discuss the word of God, fellowship with each other and serve our community,” Frazier said. Anyone interested in attending is welcome to show up to the Oct. 5 group.
