The most powerful weapon we have in our battle against fear

Summary: Amber shares how we can use the word of God to fight against fear. In our battle against fear, we need the best weapon we can get. Just like soldiers need weapons when they go off to battle, we need weapons as well in our battle against fear. The best weapon we can possibly use is the word of God. This is the weapon Jesus used when He was tempted by Satan in the wilderness. Every time Satan tempted him, Jesus countered the temptation with “it is written” and then quoted scripture. So whenever Satan tempts us to get into fear shouldn’t we follow the example of Jesus and use the word of God as well? Hebrews 4:12 says “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword.” Sounds like a pretty powerful weapon, doesn’t it? We, as believers, need to utilize this amazing weapon we have been given. The word of God has so many promises in it, yet few believers grab hold of those promises and claim them as their own. I think most think that yes, it says that, but how can we really believe it? Let me ask you, if the person you trusted the most in the entire world promised you something, would you believe it? Sad thing is, most people would believe their best friend or spouse over what God says. It is IMPOSSIBLE for God to lie. I have heard someone once say that faith is taking God at His word. I love that simple yet powerful definition. How many of us are taking God at His word? Or are we trusting in what we can see instead? Faith is believing in what we can’t see. We are to walk by faith, not by sight (Second Corinthians 5:7). But sadly many walk by sight, then they have faith. That is what Thomas did when he refused to believe Jesus was alive until he saw with his own eyes. How did Jesus reply to him? John 20:29 states: Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” So how do we use this powerful weapon we have been given? When fear rises in me, I know I need to renew my mind and counter the fear with what the word says. I tell myself, “Ok, this fear is not from God. God didn’t give me a spirit of fear, but of love, power, and sound mind!” I then find scriptures declaring what God has promised to me as a believer, and meditate on them. For example, let’s say you are in a financial bind. The enemy wants you to get into fear, yet God wants you to believe that He is going to take care of you. The Bible promises that my God shall supply ALL your needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). Psalms 34:10 says “the young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.” Trust in those words. Our job is not to figure out HOW it is going to happen; we are to trust the WHO behind the HOW. That is faith. Psalms 91 is packed full of promises that are available to every believer. Practically every day I pray verses 10-12 over my family. It reads: No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways, in their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone. If people start talking about getting sick, I start speaking the word. No plague shall come near my dwelling. No evil shall befall us! There is such peace and power in knowing what power we have been given as believers and claiming the promises of God towards us all! Now I would dare to bet that most people think I am crazy or fanatical when they read this. But I think it is crazy to NOT grab hold of these promises God has given us in the Bible. God does not want us to live in fear. He wants us to walk boldly in faith. Is there an area of your life in which you are living in fear? I encourage you to fight that fear with the word of God. Find a few scriptures that are applicable to your situation, meditate on them, and declare them aloud by faith. I promise you this – the more you allow the word of God to become real to you, the less fear you will have. How do I know? I am living proof of it. And I want you to be as well.
