Tony Korns: Dover Candidate for Mayor Office sought: Mayor of Dover Age: 57 Family: Wife Georgie and son James Grimes Education: Graduate of New Philadelphia High School Hometown: New Philadelphia Occupation: Electrician at Korns Electric Political Party: Democrat Previous elected offices: Ward 3 Councilman, City of Dover and Council-at-Large, City of Dover Applicable Experience: 31 years as a business owner, 12 years serving as a member of Dover City Council, Chairman of Utility, Service and Safety Committees, served on Finance and Parks & Recreation Committees and served on Tuscarawas County Democratic Party Executive Committee from 1990 to the present. What is the primary reason you are running for this office? Why should someone vote for you? The primary reason I am running mayor is my desire to make Dover better. I am pro-business and as a business owner I believe I can lead the city in attracting new businesses and retain the businesses that currently operate here. I have solutions that will revitalize downtown Dover and make it a thriving area where residents will come to shop and do business. What is the biggest problem facing the community? How do you propose to solve it? The biggest problem facing the community is the lack of good jobs. As mayor I will make it my number one priority to create new, good paying jobs for residents and those seeking to become residents of our community. Limited only to the office you are seeking, where specifically would you cut budgets if needed? As mayor I would get Dover out of the real estate business. I believe the city is spending too much money on land and buildings with no clear idea of what they will be used for in the future. These resources would be better spent on making improvements to Dover now rather than later. Why are you running for public office? Why do you think you can make a difference in your community? I am running for public office because I believe it is the best way for me to serve the community. I was raised in the area and have spent most of my life in Dover. This is where I am going to stay. I believe I can make a difference here because I know this community, the people that live and work here and I have the ideas to make it better. I want to have a completely open door policy so residents and business owners can come to me at any time and discuss their concerns. I want people to feel like what they think matters, because it does. How can local cities and towns work together to improve the entire area rather than just do what’s best for them? Pooling resources is almost always advantageous for smaller communities. I would like to further develop relationships with other communities in our area to find ways we can work together. We can all benefit when we use local businesses whether it be the city hiring contractors or families choosing to shop locally for goods and services. We are fortunate to have organizations like the Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau that do so much to showcase the entire county and all that is available here.
