Summary: Tuesday’s fair events kept the crowds streaming into the Tuscarawas County Fair to see judging for hogs, goats, and draft horses and a rough and tumble rodeo! The Tuscarawas County Fair hit the weather jackpot once again with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70’s as Tuesday’s activities continued to draw large crowds to the fair. It was a pig-plosion at the hog show today as 295 pigs were entered for judging which is more than 30 hogs over last year. The Grand Champion Market Hog title was won by Lauren Sprowl and Kyle Hinds took the Reserve Champion title. Tristan Laughlin of the Junior Fair Board said hog projects are so popular because you don’t need a lot of space to raise them and they usually have a good profit margin which can provide money for college. A hog project is also short term. “You buy them in May, raise them over the summer and once they leave the fairgrounds they are no longer your project,” he said. The hog show started at 9:00 a.m. and wrapped up at 4:30 in the afternoon. The Junior Fair Production and Western horse show was long lived too, spanning eight hours, but it was well worth it. “Everyone said this was the best horse show we’ve had in several years,” said Katie Weaver, a horse advisor. The senior winner for the day overall was Madison Brannon, who won five classes including two grand champion titles. Winning Reserve Showmanship was Tess Affolter. The Reserve Horsemanship winner was Ashley Decker. The area between the 4-way barn and the Main Show Arena was closed as these beautiful horses made their way from their stalls to a spot in the limelight at the Draft Horse Halter Judging. Later the Junior Fair Utility, Market, and Dairy Goat Show and Showmanship judging was held in the Main Show Arena. There were many cowboy hats seen on the fairgrounds Tuesday night as cowboys and cowgirls gathered for the Mid State Sanctioned Rodeo at the Grandstand. The crowd was impressed with the amount of talent the rodeo brought in with competitions in saddle bronc riding, calf roping, team calf roping, bareback bronc riding, steer wrestling, bull riding, and cowgirl barrel racing. Yee Haw!
