Valley Oaks Farm offers program for beginners: All About Horses

                        
Summary: All About Horses will be held May 4 and again on May 18 at Valley Oaks Farm to give beginners an opportunity to learn more about horses and their care. Reservations are recommended. Valley Oaks Farm at Shreve is offering two opportunities for beginners to learn more about horses at their inaugural event, All About Horses to be held May 4 and again on May 18 at the farm from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Reservations are strongly recommended. All About Horses includes a tour of the farm, an opportunity to meet the herd, watch demonstrations that include grooming, handling and safety practices, see breed displays, and discover the many ways horses are utilized in the world today. “The event is geared toward beginners. It is for the novice wanting to learn more about horses,” said Jackie Drake who along with husband John operates Valley Oaks Farm. “We will give tours 20 guests at a time. All About Horses is perfect for families, homeschoolers, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts or American Heritage Girls as a field trip or as a means to earn badges. Refreshments will be available for a free will offering. The event will be held rain or shine. The Drake’s established Valley Oaks Farm in 2005 when they moved to Wayne County from their farm in upstate New York. With overnight stabling and monthly boarding available, Valley Oaks also offers horsemanship instruction with programs like Beginner Horsemanship, Back in the Saddle, a refresher course for those who have ridden before, Mother/Daughter Horsemanship and Horses for Homeschoolers. All About Horses is made possible in part, by a grant from the Animals for Life Foundation, organized in 2009 by the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation and its partners and administered as a 501(c) 3 charitable entity.
