Main Story: Vision Trends is a new approach to shopping for eyewear. Dr. Scott Keating opened the Dover office in late March to offer patients a different approach to choosing glasses. “My belief is eyewear can change the way you look and feel,” said Dr. Keating. “Eyewear should enhance your personality, not hide it.” Dr. Keating is a licensed therapeutic optometrist with 21 years of experience in the region. With offices in Newcomerstown and Uhrichsville, he along with associate optometrist Dr. Adam Schmidt and a trained staff want to offer residents in the Dover/New Philadelphia area products and services exclusive to the practice. “I want my patients to have a fun experience when choosing frames. People shop for clothing they might wear once a week,” said Dr. Keating. “They don’t think enough about the glasses they will wear every day. Eyewear is an important part of the wardrobe.” Dr. Keating makes a biannual trip to international vision shows in Las Vegas and New York City where he finds the latest in designs. “We buy one-of-a-kind boutique lines that are different than anything else you would see in our area,” said Dr. Keating. “We offer a variety of frame shapes, colors and materials. Customers can choose frames made of exotic woods from Africa, buffalo horn or sustainable bamboo.” Vision Trends specializes in lines like Prada, Coach and Oakley and is introducing new designers never before seen in the area to give customers a variety of products that can accommodate all budgets and lifestyles. “We ask the patient questions that can help us understand their needs,” said Dr. Keating. “There is no one-size-fits-all formula when trying to match the right glasses to each individual. Frames are an extension of a person’s sense of style. Eyewear should complement the patient’s appearance as well as their personality.” Different lifestyles call for different eyewear. Vision Trends offers more than 1,000 frames on display as well as more than 100 styles of sunglasses for patients requiring prescription lenses or customers seeking the latest styles. “We offer sunglasses that are sport specific or simply fashionable,” said Dr. Keating. “We have sunglasses for golf, fishing, cycling or running. We have sunglasses for motorcyclists, hunters and for people that participate in water sports. We educate our patients on color tint that is best suited for their lifestyle and the activities that are important to them.” High definition lenses and special bifocals are available to help patients to see better no matter what task they are engaged in. Vision Trends has glasses for children of all ages including more than 120 frames specifically designed for kids under the age of seven. “We want children to be proud to wear their glasses,” said Dr. Keating. “All of our children frame styles come with a two-year warranty so parents can have peace of mind and not worry about replacing damaged glasses.” In addition to the fantastic selection of in-stock frames, Vision Trends can also create custom frames for sports teams or school groups. “We have made custom sunglasses for softball players at Strasburg and Tuscarawas Central Catholic,” said Dr. Keating. “We used their school colors and engraved their team logos on the frame. We used a special tint to enhance their vision for softball.” Vision Trends accepts most vision plans and Medicare. They also offer Care Credit, a program that allows patients to pay for their glasses over the course of six months with no interest. Vision Trends is located at 707 N. Wooster Ave. at Dover.
