The slogan for this years National Volunteer Week (April 21-27) is making a difference in the lives of others. And the many dedicated volunteers at Wooster Community Hospital are doing just that.
Auxiliary President Elizabeth McDaniel said she started volunteering at WCH when she retired ten years ago. I love the hospital atmosphere and everyone there is so kind, she said. The community really supports us and I think we do a lot of good.
Carol Wirt of Wooster volunteers weekly as a messenger and escort. I had heard about it and always thought it was something Id like to do when I retired. I really enjoy working there, she said.
Whether your gift is greeting people, sewing, gardening or office work, there is almost certainly a volunteer opportunity to fit your interests at WCH. Our volunteers do a little bit of everythingwe have volunteers in probably 75% of our departments, said Volunteer Coordinator Carla Redick.
The hospital currently has about 350 volunteers. Students ages 14 to 18 work in the Junior Partner program, college students as Medic Aides and adults as Auxiliary members. If anybody has a genuine interest in volunteering, wed love to have them, Redick said. Whether you are 14 or 94, we can find something for you to do!
