Alone in a crowd, that was Mary and Joseph on the way to Bethlehem. People were all around, but everyone was too busy with their own needs to help the young couple about to have a baby. A group of Walnut Creek merchants wants to use that long ago couple's story to help today's busy families return their focus to the original Christmas adventure. What if today's families could join Mary and Joseph on that road to their date with history? What an adventure to meet the same characters, experience the excitement, the rejection, and finally, the welcome. Would that add reality to the story of the couple who walked quietly to that turning point in history? This Christmas season, the merchants of the Walnut Creek area have joined together to plan a quiet adventure, a short trip reminiscent of the road Mary and Joseph walked. The Journey to Bethlehem is created to bring an age old story to life. It’s a time go at an individual pace, to anticipate a grand event, to be turned away, to be welcomed, to be entertained, and finally, to witness the scene at the heart of Christmas, the Nativity.
