Buying or building a home is a different story than it was five years ago, but then so is investing money in any other market. Anywhere in the county, real estate carries more risk now. The right house in the right neighborhood at the right price? Fat chance. So the homebuyer who is looking for a high quality, custom built house in a neighborhood that is stable, and likely to improve in value, is looking for a needle in a Holmes County hayfield. Choices usually involve paying too much, settling for lesser quality, or going to an area where it’s quite uncertain what kind of structure will show up next door. There is an option, but it’s not in plain sight. It’s tucked away, out of sight of the busyness of Holmes County summers, but only two minutes from town. On the edge of a valley, just south of Berlin, is Hawks Landing. This is a gorgeous little community, currently a few more than twenty homes. A custom built home can be had for less than 200,000 dollars.
