The West Holmes varsity tennis team ran its season record to 3-1 and head coach, Jason Otto’s number one singles player and number one doubles team continued to dominate Monday, August 23 in Millersburg as the Lady Knights cruised past visiting Zanesville 5-0. Playing on court number one, nationally ranked sophomore sensation, Rachel Nelson had no trouble beating Zanesville’s Allison Durant in straight sets, 6-0 6-0, running her record to 4-0 and continuing her streak of having not dropped a single game all season. Equally impressive were Rachel Koch and Hannah Frank, playing number one doubles and posting a 6-0 6-0 straight sets victory of their own over the Lady Blue Devils’ pairing of Ceaira Eppler and Latisha Corson. Koch and Frank are now 4-0 to start the season, including three straight sets wins in which they didn’t drop a single game. West Holmes won its second doubles match by forfeit and rounded out their 5-0 win with singles victories by Brittany Polen, who beat Shanice Grimmett 6-1 6-1, and Miranda Huebner who knocked off Taylor Frank 6-0 6-1. Having dropped only three games all afternoon against Zanesville, the Lady Knights will look forward to their next match, Thursday, August 26 when they travel to Cambridge.
