What do I think about that? No comment

Many of my readers comment to me that they like reading my commentaries in the Bargain Hunter but with a caveat something like this: “I agree with 90 percent of what you say.” I’m OK with that. In hindsight, I agree with about 90 percent of what I say. Anyway, after they get the niceties out of the way, readers, without being asked, will suggest topics for future commentaries, which I appreciate because sometimes it’s difficult to come up with a fresh idea for this space. But there are a few topics that are off limits. (Sorry, guys.) Here’s a sampling: –The inside story of the Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavaliers. Honestly, I don’t know any inside information. I’m a fan just like my readers. I have no access to locker rooms or players and my opinion is no more important than any other fan’s. I don’t know why only 14,000 fans went to Progressive Field on a beautiful May Sunday afternoon. I don’t know why the Browns traded a draft choice to the Steelers. I don’t know whether LeBron will come home and, no, I don’t hate him and if he rejoins the Cavs, yes, I probably will root for him. –How bad horizontal drilling is for the environment. I am not a scientist, but I have read a lot about the issue and have concluded that, like a lot of other things, it depends on to whom one talks and listens. I’m happy for landowners who made lucrative deals with energy companies but remain ecstatic that no one is drilling in my backyard. –The Affordable Care Law (Obamacare). This is another topic I’ve read a lot about but don’t believe I have the expertise to actually critique it. The law encompasses more than 900 pages. (At one point, the legislation had more than 2,400 pages. I don’t have a clue what happened to the missing 1,500 pages.) I do think that folks with pre-existing conditions and their families should have the ability to obtain health care without going bankrupt. Most doctors – and I respect doctors – don’t like the law. Most insurance companies – and I respect those who work in that industry – don’t like the law. I do think President Barrack Obama should have tried to fix one health care problem at a time rather than all of them in one fell swoop. I reserve the right to write about this later especially when Congress tries to change certain components of it. –Political correctness. Oh, yeah. I hate political correctness. I think. But then I think maybe I don’t. Words and actions can hurt. There were many words used routinely a century ago to describe people based on their race and/or ethnicity that now are taboo. And I can think of words used today that shouldn’t be used under any circumstances. In addition, for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals – aka PETA – to be up in arms over New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie crushing a spider on his desk is just nuts. Someone please define political correctness. I’m so confused. –The Big Four. There are four moral issues that sharply divide Americans. What I say is not going to change your mind. If you don’t know what the four moral issues are, Google “four moral issues.” It scares me to even mention them here. I guess that’s being politically correct. Sorry. –Justin Bieber, Lindsay Lohan and other self-indulgent, narcissistic Hollywood types. Enough said. –Gun control. Well-known cartoon character Homer Simpson was visibly irritated when he was told that there was a three-day waiting period before he could buy a handgun. “But I’m mad now!” Simpson yelled at the clerk. I believe criminally insane people should not have access to guns. There are two problems associated with that statement: (1) How do you determine someone is criminally insane before they commit the crime to become criminally insane? (2) How do you keep widely available weapons out of the hands of the criminally insane? Read more from Dick Farrell at TuscBargainHunter.com.
