Buckeye Career Center’s Business Professionals of America career-tech student organization is conducting a public shoe drive fundraiser through Dec. 16 to raise funds for BPA.

BCC BPA will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used and new shoes. Shoes can be dropped off inside the black/yellow containers at BCC’s main entrance and at the Joe Carlisle Café at BCC.

All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs’ network of small business partners. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited. Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house their families.

“We were looking for something different to do for a fundraiser that was outside of the box. As a class we researched ideas, and when this one came up, we knew it was perfect,” said Heather Irwin, BCC business/marketing instructor. “Funds2Orgs provides shoes to over 4,000 micro-entrepreneurs in poverty-stricken countries This aligns with everything BPA stands for, and we are excited and hope the community will join us in taking an active part in this fundraiser. By doing so, we will also raise money to send our students to competitions and to a sports marketing conference in Cleveland, in addition to providing support to families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
