Benefit Sunday for Marsha Mills Defense Fund
“Music for Marsha” will be held Sunday, Sept. 15 from 2-6 p.m. in the VFW at 441 Park Ave. NW in New Philadelphia to benefit the Marsha Mills Defense Fund.
Mills, who with numerous supporters has maintained her innocence, was convicted of murder in the 2006 death of a toddler she was babysitting in her New Philadelphia home. She maintains that he fell down an outdoor staircase and struck his head on cement.
For more than 12 years, she has been imprisoned at the Ohio Reformatory for Women at Marysville.
The Ohio Innocence Project, based at the University of Cincinnati‘s College of Law, is handling her case. The OIP receives thousands of requests annually and accepts less than 1 percent of cases for clients its members consider are actually innocent.
Admission to the fundraiser will be by donation and will include a sandwich and salad buffet and musical entertainment by the Vaughan Brothers Band, Daniels & Rinehart and others. Raffles, a silent auction, door prizes, a bake sale and crafts also are planned. A cash bar will be available.
