Community Action Wayne/Medina is scheduling appointments for the upcoming Summer Crisis Program, running July 1-August 31. The program is funded through the Ohio Department of Development, Office of Community Services and because of high demand and fewer resources, the program will not be giving away air conditioners or fans this year. The Summer Crisis Program is for people 60 years of age or older, or clients who have a documented medical condition, with a one-time payment on their electric bill of up to $175. No disconnect notice is required. To find out if a household will qualify, or to set up an appointment, call 330-264-8677. Community Action provides free vegetable plants and flowers to income-eligible households. In an effort to assist and encourage people to plant their own gardens and help reduce their grocery bills, Community Action will provide vegetable plants and seeds to area residents who meet income requirements. The hours of the plant program are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., through July 2. The plant program is operated on a first-come, first-served basis. To find out specific economic guidelines, call Community Action Wayne/Medina at 330-264-8677.
