HCGHD offering free art program for area kids
In partnership with the Holmes Center for the Arts, the Holmes County General Health District is offering a free art program for Holmes County students in fifth grade through 12th grade during the month of October. This program, called the Advocacy Through Art Project, will empower youth to use art to raise community awareness and promote change on topics like tobacco and vaping prevention.
Participants will create art projects and learn how to develop plans for promoting their work in the community. They’ll also gain insight into the harmful effects of youth vaping, the health impacts and how tobacco companies target young people through marketing.
Meeting dates are Wednesdays in October, starting Oct. 2, from 4-5 p.m. at the Holmes Center for the Arts.
The first three meetings will feature presentations on tobacco/vaping prevention, tobacco marketing and youth advocacy, followed by art project development. The final two meetings will focus on completing the art projects and planning how to share the work with the community.
For every session attended, participants will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win an art set during the final meeting on Oct. 30.
