The Falls Prevention Program of Holmes, Wayne & Ashland is sponsoring a Healthy Aging Clinic for the age 60 and older population at Holmesville Church of Christ on Thursday, Oct. 17. It will provide free fall risk screenings, balance screenings, hearing screenings and vision screenings.

                        

The Falls Prevention Program of Holmes, Wayne & Ashland, led by the Holmes County General Health District, is sponsoring a Healthy Aging Clinic for the age 60 and older population at Holmesville Church of Christ, 204 W. Main St. in Holmesville, on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This clinic is not income based.

The Healthy Aging Clinic will provide free fall risk screenings, balance screenings, hearing screenings and vision screenings. Each screening will be no more than 30 minutes in length.

The fall risk screening will be provided by a trained falls prevention ambassador. The individual will be asked to respond to falls-related statements from the Stay Independent resource created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The balance screenings will be provided by trained Medical Reserve Corps volunteers of the health district. The individual will be screened in three different fall risk assessments from the Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths & Injuries created by the CDC.

After the fall risk screening, an educational meeting will be held with Kerry MacQueen, health educator/injury prevention coordinator at the HCGHD, to discuss falls prevention and make a referral with the agreement of the individual to the Falls Prevention Program. Results from the fall risk screening will be shared with the individual and documentation results of the screening that could be shared with healthcare providers.

Modern Hearing Solutions will conduct the hearing screenings. Education on the results of the screening will be reviewed with the individual with potential referrals.

Kristin Yabroff, RN and MRC volunteer, will provide vision screening as a screening only. No diagnosis will occur. State vision provider information will be made available to those who participate in the vision screening.
