The annual fall Bolivar-Zoar Rotary Health Check is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17, from 7-11 a.m. at the ROC (formerly Der Dutchman Restaurant) on Route 212 in Bolivar. The area’s newest Rotary Club is partnering with the newest health provider in the area, Mercy Hospital’s New Philadelphia Medical Center to offer this valuable service for a reasonable cost. The blood profile and liver function panel tests are the most comprehensive of those offered at area blood screenings, for a fee. Blood pressure screening is available at no cost and additional PSA tests for men will be available for a fee. The analysis screens for more than 50 separate blood indicators including diabetes, cholesterol, triglycerides, liver function, calcium, kidney function, gout, iron deficiency, anemia, infection and more. Mercy health care professionals will draw the blood samples and testing will be done at the hospital’s lab. Printed results noting anything out of the normal ranges will be sent to the participant and/or their doctor. The Bolivar-Zoar Rotary, also known as the Towpath Club, has dedicated its fundraising events to the operation and maintenance of the Zoar Arboretum and Wetlands, park projects benefiting the Canal Towpath, literacy projects with the Bolivar Library, scholarships for Tusky Valley Interact club members and larger Rotary efforts such as worldwide polio eradication. Rotary committee member Terri Davis said, “This is an ideal opportunity to take charge of one’s own health. If someone missed an earlier screening, we encourage them to stop in at our screening in Bolivar. This is an easy way to keep track at a reasonable cost, especially for people who do not have insurance to pay for costly tests. Many people have said they try to do this once every six months just to stay on top of their health issues.” Appointments for the screening can be made by calling Mercy Medical at 330-365-5100, option one. Walk-ins at the screening site in Bolivar will also be accommodated. Coffee and breakfast snacks will be provided.
