Mercy Medical Center, in partnership with the Tuscarawas County Public Library System’s Get Healthy at your library program series, is offering a Heart Health Fair on Tuesday, Feb. 15, inside the main library at 121 Fair Ave. NW, from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. This health fair will offer free blood pressure and pulmonary function screenings, and will also offer low-cost glucose ($2), total cholesterol ($2), and full lipid profiles ($8) with a 12-hour fast recommended for more accurate results. Health professionals from Mercy Medical Center departments will be available with educational materials and interactive displays, including respiratory therapy, diabetes education, heart catheterization lab, cardiac diagnostics lab, nutritional services, smoking cessation and more. After the Heart Health Fair, Mercy will present New Frontiers in Heart Care at 6:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 201 West High Ave. in New Philadelphia. This program will feature Ahmed Sabe, M.D., Harvard trained interventional cardiologist and medical director of Mercy’s Heart Center, Aqeel Sandhu, M.D., Harvard and Cleveland Clinic trained cardiovascular surgeon, medical director of Mercy’s cardiothoracic surgery program, and Amjad Iqbal, M.D., Mayo Clinic trained cardiologist, medical director of Mercy’s satellite cardiovascular imaging program. This free educational program will cover coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, acute intervention and new treatment options such as robotic assisted surgery. Participants can also view real coronary stents and pacemaker devices. “The Roman poet Virgil stated, ‘The greatest wealth is health,’ and we are committed to providing materials and programs throughout our library system to assist our community in getting healthier,” said adult programming coordinator Debra Cahill. To register for these educational programs, call the main library’s reference desk at 330-364-4474, ext. 231 or 233, or stop by the Tuscarawas County Public Library’s reference desk.
