Nature retreats for children, teens

The loss of a loved one is often one of the most difficult experiences for a person to go through. However, this experience can be even more devastating for children and teens because of the many issues that the loss created. Often there are not many resources for children and teens to share, express and talk with others about their grieving experience. Hospice of Tuscarawas, Stark and Carroll counties, in cooperation with the Tuscarawas Soil and Water Conservation District and the Stark County Park District, are sponsoring a one-day program for bereaved children and teens. Always in My Heart Nature Retreats are identical one day camps conducted at Brandywine Center in Sugarcreek on June 11, and Sippo Lake Pavilion in Canton on June 15. The camp programs each begin at 9 a.m. and end by 4 p.m. The camps are under the direction of Salva Sedlak, director of bereavement for hospice and Kim Clark. Both are licensed social workers with specialized training and interest in assisting those going through the process of grieving. The camps are offered free of charge but preregistration is required. Children who have attended in the past have enjoyed activities such as hiking, games, drama, music and crafts. Registration packets can be obtained by contacting Salva Sedlak at 330-343-7605 in the Tuscarawas County office and Kim Clark at 330-493-0126 or 877-733-0010 in the Stark County office.
