Ten Lakes Center closing gap in mental health care; opening Wellness Center

Generations at Ten Lakes is taking strides toward closing the gap in mental health care for Tuscarawas County and surrounding communities. Implementing a partial hospitalization program (PHP) will enable the patients stabilizing from an acute decompensation to have a step-down service to re-acclimate back into the community or their residential living facility.

The Wellness Center can provide a less intensive rehabilitation and avoid inpatient treatment for some altogether. Suzanne Stull stated, “This is an outstanding, cost effective resource for those in the community whom don’t quite meet the need for inpatient, yet could benefit from the structured and creative and therapeutic environment the Wellness Center can provide.” An open house will be held Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 5-7 p.m., located at 2419 East High Ave., New Philadelphia. Come learn how to benefit from the therapeutic environment the Wellness Center provides.

Once psychiatric treatment stabilizes a patient’s condition, he or she may progress to a less-intensive treatment setting. The psychiatrist may recommend partial hospitalization. A PHP is an intensive psychiatric outpatient treatment that provides less than 24 hours of daily care that is designed to provide patients with severe mental health conditions an individualized and attentive treatment program that is not typically provided in a regular outpatient setting.

The Wellness Center is a therapeutic day program for adults facing emotional and cognitive challenges such as mood disorders, complications related to grief and loss of loved ones or physical capabilities, anxiety disorders, alcohol or medication abuse, eating disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder. This comprehensive program offers a structured, supportive environment to enhance social contact while learning new insights and skills to help you manage life’s challenges. Referrals come from a variety of sources including, but not limited to physicians, residential facilities, group homes, home health agencies, family members, or by the individuals requesting care.

Jodi Dean is the community education liaison for Generations at Ten Lakes, a 16-bed acute care inpatient behavioral health hospital for older adults, and the Wellness Center Partial Hospitalization Program, located at 819 North First St., Dennison 22621.
