While the appearance of budding trees and blossoming flowers are a welcome sight to most, they can herald a season of sniffling, sneezing misery for those who suffer from seasonal allergies. Warming temperatures following a long, cold winter and below-average rainfall have resulted in record-high pollen counts across the nation according to a recent article on the website http://www.pollen.com. If you are among the 50 million allergy sufferers in the U.S. dismayed at the appearance of that greenish-yellow dust floating in the air, there is relief to be found in the newest medical treatments for seasonal allergies. Union Hospital’s Take Charge of Your Health topic this month is Survivin’ the Summer Sneezin’ Season. Learn about the latest innovations in treating and controlling the symptoms of seasonal allergies from physicians Nicholas Groch, D.O., and Melanie Pence, D.O., of Dover. Both are ear, nose, and throat physicians on the Union Hospital medical staff and specialize in diagnosing and treating allergies. The program will be offered Thursday, June 10, at 7 p.m., in the Reeves Auditorium at Union Hospital. The program is free but registration is requested. For more information or to register, visit http://www.unionhospital.org or call 330-602-0778. “This spring’s early warm-up and high pollen count have been extra hard on everyone affected by seasonal allergies,” said Pam Dummermuth, Union Hospital Community Health Outreach coordinator. “We want people to know that it truly is possible to enjoy all the activities the season has to offer and stay comfortable.”
