United Way community partners get extra funds
Four community partners have recently received nearly $20,000 in additional funding from the United Way of Tuscarawas County to support health and human service programs they provide to area residents.“While we know this money won’t make up for the recent cuts in health and human service funding at the state and federal levels, we felt a sense of urgency to support the great work our partners are doing in the community,” said Scott Robinson, United Way president. “Our volunteers remain committed to efficiently using donor dollars to make a difference in the lives of as many people as possible.”
Personal and Family Counseling Services received $7,843 for its Positive Parenting and Harbor House programs. Marilyn Henry, PFCS executive director, said the money comes as welcome news.
“The additional funding for the Positive Parenting and Harbor House Halfway House programs could not have come at a better time. We were struggling as each of the programs had funding deficits this year due to flat or decreased funding from other sources. PFCS is extremely grateful for the great partnership that we have with the United Way and their recognition of the positive outcomes of our work with children and families.”
The preschool program, the Twinges in the Hinges program and the after-school program at the Tuscarawas County YMCA will get $6,000 in extra funding. Big Brothers Big Sisters was provided with $3,500 for its school-based and community-based mentoring programs while the Red Cross was awarded an additional $2,000 for its adult and youth health safety programs and its disaster services program.
“We hope the community will continue to support the United Way this fall,” added Robinson. The United Way of Tuscarawas County has raised $74,716 or 13.2 percent of its $565,000 goal for the 2009/2010 fundraising effort.
