A recent review of nursing homes by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has resulted in the continuation of a 5-star rating for Walnut Hills in Walnut Creek.

Walnut Hills is among 21% of nursing homes in Ohio to receive an overall 5-star rating.

“We are so blessed by the outstanding team members we have at Walnut Hills,” said Rob Aneshansel, executive director. “Our team truly is the reason CMS has reaffirmed a 5-star rating for Walnut Hills. Our team members are dedicated, compassionate and kind, and they give their best every day for our residents and their families.”

CMS created the 5-star rating system to help consumers and their families compare nursing homes more easily and to help identify areas about which they might want to ask questions.

The Quality Star Ratings are based on several components including health inspections, staffing and quality measures.

Those quality measures include the percentage of short-stay residents who improved in their ability to move around on their own (the Walnut Hills’ rate was much higher than the Ohio and national rates) and the percentage of short-stay residents who were rehospitalized after a nursing home admission (the Walnut Hills’ percentage was almost 10% below the state and national averages).

“We are also pleased that Walnut Hills maintained a 4-star rating in the staffing component of the CMS review,” Aneshansel said. “Adequate staffing is vital to quality care, and our overall staffing levels are above the state and national averages.”

The latest review from CMS shows nursing assistants at Walnut Hills spend more time with residents per day compared to other nursing homes across Ohio and the nation, and the number of RN hours per resident per day at Walnut Hills is higher than the Ohio and national averages.
