On March 30, from 6-8 p.m., the Wooster Ambulatory Surgery Center (WASC), located at 3373 Commerce Parkway, Suite 1, will host a public educational forum on the importance of colon screenings or colonoscopy. Dr. Vincent Jabour, a board certified gastroenterologist, will speak on the importance of proper screenings with guidelines from the American College of Gastroenterology. The prevention of colorectal cancer (CRC) can be achieved with proper screenings at regular intervals. Jabour will discuss the benefits of having the procedure done at a free standing ambulatory surgery center. Unlike some cancers, colorectal cancer is highly preventable and can be detected early through proper screening. Colon cancer is a serious disease affecting approximately 140,000 people annually. Many of these cases could have been detected at an earlier stage in order to improve survival. Many cases are detected at a late stage leading to costly surgery and chemotherapy with poor outcomes. CRC can often be prevented through regular screenings, a healthy diet and regular exercise. “Like any cancer the key is catching it early if the disease is present, hence the importance of regular screenings” said Jabour. The Wooster Ambulatory Surgery Center has been performing colonoscopies since it opened in 2008 and has done more than 1,000 with outstanding results. The surgery center has endoscopy specialty trained RN’s and technicians along with a pre-op and recovery staff that has patient safety and satisfaction as their number one goal. Anesthesia service is provided to ensure patient safety during conscience sedation. WASC accepts almost all insurances and is the most cost effective center for outpatient ambulatory services. Questions can be directed to Victoria Caillet, RN administrator or Jennifer Weeks, business office manager, at 330-804-2000. Space is limited, so reservations are requested by March 26.
