HCA has numerous upcoming spring, summer events
                        

Holmes Center for the Arts will offer workshops, camps and classes during the spring and summer. For more information visit www.holmescenterforthearts.org.

Acrylic pour/paint and sip with Karen Drongowski will be Fridays, April 19, May 10, June 7 and July 26 from 6-7:30 p.m. for adult students for $25 per workshop. It will be a different project each time. Bring a beverage of your choice.

Poetry Club with Jennifer McCluggage will be every first Thursday of the month, except July 4, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. with a suggested $5 donation. Bring a notebook and a pen. Bring a poem — one of your own or another poet’s — to share.

Open studio oil painting will be Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon for $5 per session to cover the cost of the studio. Artists will need to bring their own oil painting supplies. These are not lessons but a time to share tips with one another.

Wheel-throwing ceramics with Eric Yoder will be Thursdays through May 23 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for $150 plus a $30 supply fee. The seven-week course is for beginners through advanced.

Digital art with Addie White will be Saturdays, April 20 and 27 and May 4 and 11 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. for $45. Learn the ins and outs of digital art using Procreate on iPad Pro. Students will use different tools and layers and work with the color wheel.

Art for adults with Drongowski will be Thursdays beginning May 2 from noon to 1:30 p.m. for teens through adults for $15 per class. Explore a plethora of art activities.

Fairytale camp will have two dates — June 4 and 6 or June 25 and 27 — and will run from 9-10:30 a.m. for age 3-6 for $40. Dance with your favorite fairytale characters and create art projects inspired by these beloved works.

Cartooning camp with Dylan Olsen will have two dates — June 4 and 6 or June 25 and 27 — and will run from 9-10:30 a.m. for age 8-15 for $30 per camp. Learn the tricks of the cartooning trade and the proper use of color to create several of your favorite characters. Materials will be included.

Pennsylvania Dutch Fraktur design with local artist Marlea Hershberger-Leinbach will be Tuesday, July 9 from 6-8 p.m. at the German Culture Museum, 4877 Olde Pump St., Walnut Creek, for age 15 through adult for $30. Younger ages must attend with an adult. The class is limited to 15 students. Hershberger-Leinbach will teach the Pennsylvania Dutch art form of Fraktur using ink and watercolor. View historic Fraktur examples displayed at the museum, where people also may learn about the beginnings of the Amish faith and local history. The $30 price includes a dip pen and tips, hot-press paper and ink, and a donation to the museum. Bring your own set of watercolors or borrow from the museum. The museum is housed in the lower floor of the Walnut Creek Community Center.

Summer flowers with Hershberger-Leinbach will be Wednesday, July 10 from 6-8 p.m. for $40. The class will include textured oil painting with cold wax medium and collage and is open to beginning and advanced artists, though some experience with oil paints will be helpful. An 11-by-14-inch stretched canvas and wax medium will be provided. Bring your own oil paints and palette knives.

Pet party camp will have two dates — July 16 and 18 or July 30 and Aug. 1 — and will be from 9-10:30 a.m. for age 3-6 for $40 per camp. Children are invited to bring their favorite stuffed pet. They will dance with their favorite pets and create animal crafts to take home.

Drawing camp for kids with Drongowski will be June 17-19 from noon to 2 p.m. for kindergarten through fifth grade for $60. Students will learn tips for drawing activities and work with a variety of dry media.

Mixed media camp for kids with Drongowski will be July 23, 24 and 25 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. for kindergarten through fifth grade for $60. Students will explore a range of media and techniques.

Intro to oil painting/pear still life with McCluggage will be June 18 and 20 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for teens through adults for $40 with all materials included. Create two 5-by-7-inch studies of a pear — one in gray tones and one in color. Follow step-by-step instructions to learn basic oil painting techniques.

Intro to oil painting/summer peaches with McCluggage will be Tuesdays, July 16 and 23 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for teens through adults for $40 with all materials included. Create two 5-by-7-inch studies of peaches — one of slices and one of a whole peach. Learn basic color mixing skills while studying shape and value.

Spanish camp with Colette Propri and Mary Gilmore will be Monday, June 10 and Wednesday, June 12 from 5-6:30 p.m. for kindergarten through sixth grade for $35. The camp will be an intro to the Spanish language through the food, music and art of the culture.
