Pirates football stays unbeaten
Garaway dominated from start to finish in a 58-0 beatdown of Tusky Valley in Inter-Valley Conference football action on Oct. 6.
The Pirates (8-0, 3-0) jumped out to a 23-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and went into halftime ahead 36-0. They scored two touchdowns in the third quarter and tacked on one more in the fourth to cement the dominating performance.
Garaway kicker Anderson Colon booted a school-record 48-yard field goal in the first quarter.
Quarterback Brady Giebel completed 10 of 13 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 37 yards and a score on seven carries. Jenson Garber led the receivers with four catches for 101 yards and two TDs while Jackson Reifenschneider had a 9-yard touchdown reception.
Dillon Soehnlen paced the rushing attack with 99 yards and two TDs on 18 carries while Luis Wahl turned four carries into 72 yards and two scores.
The Pirates defense held Tusky Valley (4-4, 0-3) to 66 yards of total offense on 38 plays and forced four turnovers. The unit has yet to allow an opponent to score more than 14 points this season and has pitched two shutouts.
Wyatt Wallick led the way against TV with five tackles including a sack. Keaton Beucler and Clayton Downs added three tackles each. Reifenschneider and Ethan Kimble both had a sack while Jayce Wallick and Kaden Doane each had an interception.
Volleyball
Garaway knocked off Indian Valley 25-19, 22-25, 28-26, 25-14 in IVC play on Oct. 10.
Morgan Schlabach (39 kills), Audrey Miller (11 kills), Charlee Yoder (60 assists), Jordyn Keim (33 digs), Kaitlyn Mast (25 digs) and Morgan Ryan (two blocks) paced the Lady Pirates.
Tusky Valley picked up a 25-23, 25-13, 25-19 win over Garaway in an IVC clash on Oct. 5.
Yoder (25 assists, 12 digs), Schlabach (17 kills), Ryan (four blocks) and Jazzy Miller (two aces) led the way for the Lady Pirates.
Boys cross country
Garaway finished third out of five teams at the Indian Valley Invitational on Oct. 7.
Nathan Money placed sixth (17:07.4) and Nic Palmer eighth (17:25.2) to lead the Pirates. Carter Travis (23rd), Jase Miller (27th) and Tyler Hershberger (39th) also scored for Garaway.
Girls cross country
Garaway finished fourth at the six-team Indian Valley Invitational on Oct. 7.
Meghan Schwartz placed third (20:19) and Mya Wengerd ninth (22:02.2) to pace the Lady Pirates. Natalia Flores-Flores (26th), Tori Beachy (40th) and Emily Rider (45th) rounded out Garaway’s scoring.
