Letter to the Editor:

I am writing to support the candidacy of Suzanne Marie Waldron for Wayne County Municipal Court judge.

Attorney Waldron met recently with a group of intelligent, community-minded women in a nonadversarial setting. What follows is a summary of comments these women made in answer to the question, “Why vote for Suzanne Waldron?”

She has an enormous wealth of experience gained in various roles in the court system: magistrate in Cuyahoga Juvenile Court (2010-15), bailiff for Cuyahoga Court of Common Pleas, Juvenile Division (2010-12), clerk of courts in Wayne County (2006), solicitor for Village of Smithville (2001-06) and prosecutor for traffic violations for West Salem’s Mayor’s Court (2004-06).

Some of the types of cases she has dealt with are disability, guardianships for indigent clients and Juvenile Court, where the charges were both traffic offenses and felonies, which may require removal from the community.

Another individual who has worked with the Ohio youth commission felt it important to have someone like Waldron, who is fair and firm yet looking to keep offenders from further run-ins with the law and move on to a better place in their lives.

She values the three roles the courts play: keeping the community safe, punishing the offender and rehabilitating the offender, where warranted. Waldron sees the need for those individuals charged with breaking the law to assume responsibility and to actively participate in treatment or other supportive provisions. These roles mean applying the law with clarity and fairness. She has worked to understand many types of people and would approach this position with diligence, compassion and a basic decency.

Other phrases used to describe Waldron were knowledgeable, not power hungry, truth seeker, pragmatic, able to put herself in other’s shoes, advocate, diligent, transparent, honest, good communicator and good listener.
