Several students in the construction technology program at Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center will become summer interns and full-time employees of local companies.

Quality instruction and hard work have led to good-paying summer internships for juniors Rylen McDonald (Loudonville) and Austin Ashley (Hillsdale), who will intern at Kokosing Construction of Fredericktown, and Tyler Watson (Loudonville), who will intern at Simonson Construction of Ashland.

As soon as the school year ends, these graduating seniors will be employed full-time with two companies: William Jones (Ashland) at Kokosing and Brycen Light (Ashland) and Colton Christine (Loudonville) at Simonson Construction.

According to Mark Osborn, workforce manager for Kokosing, students in summer employment who are not yet 18 will be in construction-supporting roles, and the full-time employees will aim for carpentry apprenticeships.

Dan Moore of Simonson Construction said, “We’re very happy with the students we have found here at the career center. Mr. Staats is doing a good job of preparing his students for successful careers.”
