Wooster Chamber’s annual dinner meeting postponed
With the increase of COVID-19 cases in Wayne County, the Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce has decided to postpone its annual dinner meeting, which originally was set for Jan. 27.
“Out of an abundance of caution and care, we have decided to postpone the 2022 Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce annual dinner,” said Samira Zimmerly, chamber president. “With a focus on health and safety for all of our attendees, we will be looking to reschedule the event in the coming months. This delay will not stop us from giving the proper recognition to our award winners, members and community when we feel that we can do so in a safe manner.”
The chamber consulted local medical professionals in making its decision to postpone the event.
“With the continuing surge of COVID-19 cases in our county and region, it makes sense to postpone the annual dinner for a few months in the hopes that incidence rates will drop,” said Bill Sheron, president and CEO of Wooster Community Hospital. “The numbers are currently the highest we’ve seen since the pandemic began two years ago.”
A reschedule date has not been announced yet, but the chamber and its partners are looking to gather with the community in the spring.
“‘The show must go on’ is in our DNA, and we are extremely excited to recognize all of our 2022 award recipients at the 122nd annual dinner,” chamber board chairman Chad Boreman said. “That said, the health and well-being of our community is first and foremost. Unfortunately, we are devastated to share this news with you. Not without much deliberation and consideration, we felt it was in the best interest of our community to delay the event.”
