The Dennison Railroad Depot Museum extends an invitation to the community at large to help on Saturday, Nov. 21, in setting up the North Pole in Newcomerstown for the Polar Express train rides. Work will entail decorating Santa’s Workshop and sleigh, elf houses, Christmas trees and more. Work will begin at 8 a.m. on Railroad Street in Newcomerstown.
The North Pole is located at the intersection of Railroad and Nugent streets.
Wendy Zucal, museum director, said this is a perfect project for students required to do community service and individuals and organizations looking to help their community. The Polar Express train rides, running Dec. 4-6 and 11-12, are expected to bring in nearly 10,000 visitors, adding tourism dollars to the area’s economic development. The project is completed largely by community help, requiring more than 150 volunteers a night to operate the trips.
For anyone interested in working on the train, a final training session will be held Nov. 19, at 7 p.m., at the depot.
