Sugarcreek Council agrees to food truck fees
Bev Keller, organizer of events held in the village, asked Sugarcreek Council at the April 7 meeting to consider the fees for the food trucks that come to events held in the village.
Council agreed to charge a $50 fee that is good for a year for any event. Nonprofit groups participating do not need a permit. They also will need health department certificates and proof of insurance.
Keller said it is difficult to know how many individuals will attend these events, and food truck owners are always inquiring about how big that certain event might be.
Council passed an ordinance, as an emergency, to enter into an agreement to repair the two water storage tanks.
“The cost supersedes the $75,000 that is needed to seek bids; however, this is a necessary emergency to repair the water storage tanks,” Mayor Walt Wilson said. “The tanks are located at Belden near Sugarcreek McDonald’s and at the football field. The cost for both tanks is $135,000. The tanks are inspected every five years. They will be drained, sand blasted and repairs will be made. The outside needs painted, but we can do that another time.”
Council member Matt Miller, chairman of the street, water and sewer committee, asked for council’s approval to allow the proposed Skyline School, to be constructed on 3.2 acres off Skyline Drive, to tie into the village lift station after the land is annexed. A legal right-of-way must be obtained from Skyline, and the school officials will be responsible to pay the tap fees and install a holding tank and pump it in the evening into the village sewer system.
Council also did the following:
—Heard the railroad crossing on Dover Road (Ohio 39) and Edelweiss Drive will be repaired in June. The road will be closed for three days. Village Administrator Kevin Kaser said a date has not been set.
—Approved a quote to repair the waterline at the water department building at a cost of $42,180.
—Passed an amended ordinance to adopt the International Property Maintenance Code.
—Learned an AED device was donated and the fire department purchased a case for the area by the cheesemaker statue at a cost of $500. An electrician will need to secure the apparatus at the site.
—Agreed to vacate an alley at 372 High St. There are no utilities in the alley, and all property owners must agree to the closing. It will need surveyed and information given to Solicitor Doug Frautschy for approval.
—Heard a request from a resident of Heritage Crossings about securing better lighting at the entrance of the site and trimming some trees and bushes on Mt. Pleasant Road.
—Heard from Laura Russell, Sugarcreek library manager, that the kickoff party for reading will be held Tuesday, June 3 at 4 p.m. Storytime will be held June 11, 18 and 25 at 10:30 a.m. Many activities also will be held in July.
