Under a federal appropriation from Congress to the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program, Tuscarawas County has been allocated funding to supplement and expand emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

Tuscarawas County has been awarded $41,572. This award is based upon the county’s total number of unemployed as compared to the total number of unemployed in all qualifying jurisdictions. The funding time frame is through May 31.

The local Tuscarawas County EFSP board will meet to review applications and determine recipients of the funding.

Per national guidelines, the local board is composed of representatives from American Red Cross, Dominion East Ohio Gas, Friends of the Homeless Shelter, the Greater Dover/New Philadelphia Food Pantry, GuideStone of Ohio, HARCATUS, Job and Family Services, Journey’s End, OSU Extension Services, Salvation Army, Tuscarawas County Council for Church and Community, Tuscarawas County Family and Children First, Twin City Christian Service Center, United Way of Tuscarawas County, and representatives from various religious communities.

Under terms of the grant from the national board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government, be eligible to receive federal funds, have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination, have a DUNS number and a valid email address, demonstrate the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and have a voluntary board if they are a private voluntary organization. Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.

Any public or private agency wishing to receive an application and be considered for funding must contact local board chairperson Louise Worsham to receive an application. Call Worsham at 330-343-6012 or email director@t4conline.net. More information also is available by going to the EFSP website at www.efsp.unitedway.org.

The deadline for submitting applications is 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19. All applicants must be available to present their application that morning when the voting members of the local board meet to determine recipients.
