On March 9 Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine issued Executive Order 2020-01D, declaring a state of emergency in response to the growing COVID-19 public health crisis.

In response the Tuscarawas County commissioners have issued an order closing the courthouse and county office building to public access, reopening April 6.

The Tuscarawas County Probate/Juvenile Division of the Court of Common Pleas has developed the following flexible responses. These responses are intended to protect public health, maintain essential court functions and continue to protect the rights of all individuals subject to the authority of the court. Temporary orders detailing how certain essential functions will take place are listed below:

Filings will be accepted by fax at 330-364-3190 and email to juvenileprobation@co.tuscarawas.oh.us for Juvenile Probation; paternityoffice@co.tuscarawas.oh.us for Paternity, Custody, Visitation, Child Support; and probate@co.tuscarawas.oh.us for Probate Court.

Filings also will be accepted through the Tuscarawas County Treasurer’s drive-through window.

Filings will be accepted without court costs at this time. Regular designated costs will be assessed at a later date and must be paid.

Marriage licenses

No marriage licenses can be issued. After the courthouse reopens, you may apply for your marriage license.

Your wedding ceremony can proceed as planned, but you will not be legally married.

No marriage is legal until the couple receives a marriage license and is married by an officiant under the laws of the State of Ohio.

The official wedding date will be the date on which you are actually married by the officiant after you’ve obtained your license.
