A summertime favorite, the 17th annual Downtown Dover Car and Bike Show, will be returning on Friday, August 6, from 5-9 p.m.
The annual car and bike show is hosted by Kustom Kemps of Ohio, Historic Canal Dover Association (HCDA), and Adventure Harley Davidson of Dover.
The show will offer a wide variety of automobiles from antiques, restorations, and modified vehicles dating back to as early as the 20s. We will also have a good selection of corvettes and motorcycles, said Onley Heath, retired school administrator and current president of Kustom Kemps.
Rick Wise of Moomaw Chevrolet and sergeant-at-arms for the Kustoms Kemps Club is one of the judges for the car and bike show and said that the Downtown Dover Car Show is a fun, family oriented show with lots to see.
Along with the hundreds of restored, modified and antique vehicles to admire, DJ Spikeman will be spinning records with music from the 50s, 60s and 70s. There will also be a 50/50 drawing and door prizes.
Fill up the familys tank with dinner from K&M Concessions, Grace Dover Evangelical Lutheran Church of Dovers food stand, along with the Dover Lions Food Trailer, and the HCDA New York-style hot dog cart.
Heath, a judge and organizer of the car and bike show, said his favorite part of this event is looking at all of the cars that come and seeing what people have done to enhance them and all of the different paint schemes.
Over 60 awards will be handed out, and special awards like the Kustom Kemp Club choice for Best GM, Best Ford, Best Mopar, Mayors Choice Award, the Police and Fire Chief Choice Award, Best of Show trophy for Best Car, Best Truck, and Best Motorcycle.
Registration for this judged show is $10 for cars and bikes and dash plaques will be given to the first 300 cars or bikes registered. The proceeds that are raised during the several Kustom Kemp Club events such as the Downtown Dover Car and Bike Show, are donated to local charities such as hospice, said Wise. Last year we donated about $2,500 to local charities.
Kustom Kemps Club has been around for 25 years and we meet once a month, said Wise. Kustom Kemps currently has 40 members that have been planning for the Downtown Dover Car and Bike Show for a year we start as soon as the last one is over, said Wise.
At meetings we talk about the events we put on and other cars shows we would like to go to as a club, said Wise.
Dues are $15. You can join at any time; just ask one of the Kustom Kemps members for a form, said Wise.
