Downtown Wooster concert, cruise-in set for June 20
Cruise-ins are a longtime staple of downtown Wooster summers. Once again, it’s time to get those vintage cars out of storage and head down for the first summer cruise-in. The street will be lined with a variety of makes and models of vehicles on Friday, June 20 from 6:30-9 p.m.
Live music will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the band Blackout playing classic rock to accompany classic vehicles. The Oma Gourd Handcrafted Tacos food truck will be parked near the pavilion with a variety of offerings including tacos, burritos, salads and more.
For those who want to showcase their car or truck, participation is free, and there is no need to preregister. Streets will close at 5:30 p.m., and parking will be available on a first come, first served basis starting at 6 p.m. There are no specific requirements for vehicles to participate.
“We have anything from the 1920s to modern-day sports cars,” said Kerri Manley, project manager at Main Street Wooster.
There are typically around 300 cars participating.
“We have one young man who brings a tractor and individuals who bring drag cars,” Manley said. “There have been restored Ford Broncos, International Scout Trucks, fun convertibles and Volkswagen vans.”
She said many vehicle owners are ready to answer questions and chat about their vehicles. Some even bring props.
“We have some incredible sponsors,” Manley said, “Buehler's Fresh Foods and Simonson Construction. Without their generosity we would not put this event on.”
Streets closing include East Liberty from the Bever Street intersection to West Liberty at the Grant Street intersection, North Market Street from the North Street intersection to South Market at the South Street intersection, and some additional side streets. Participating vehicles park diagonally.
Accessible Porta Potties will be located in the alley behind the courthouse. The streets will reopen at 9:30 p.m., and all cars remaining must be legally parked at that time.
“It is a fun evening to explore the downtown, look at classic cars, listen to classic rock and just stroll the streets at your leisure,” Manley said. “Everyone can come and have a great time and just enjoy the evening.”
