Steve Maurer, state executive director for the Ohio Farm Service Agency (FSA), has announced that the 2009 crop year Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments (SURE) program sign up is underway and will end July 29. SURE is a disaster program that provides assistance to farmers and producers who have experienced losses caused by natural disasters. “Natural disasters can turn what would be a profitable crop year into a year of hardship and financial loss,” said Maurer. “The SURE program is part of the safety net that provides assistance to farmers and ranchers when disaster strikes.” For information on the 2009 SURE program eligibility requirements, visit the local FSA office. Additional information regarding the SURE program is also located at http://www.fsa.usda.gov/sure.
