Outdoor furniture on tap for health district building
The Holmes County General Health District and Holmes County Commissioners are in the process of completing a project for the new health district building on Glen Drive that should provide a peaceful and relaxing area for both employees and visitors.
On Monday, March 31, the commissioners and Holmes County Health District Board President Misty Burns met with Berlin Gardens’ Molly Lotut, director of marketing, and Regan Wilcox, marketing coordinator, to discuss the purchase of outdoor furniture that will be placed under the vineyard pergola area connected to the health district building.
“What we want to do is make it more inviting for people to come in, sit down and relax,” Commissioner Joe Miller said.
“Our goal is to make it a relaxing place for employees, or people waiting on someone at an appointment can relax and enjoy the outdoors,” Commissioner Eric Strouse said.
Miller said Berlin Gardens and Kaufman Lawn Furniture were gracious in donating the pergola to the health district building when they built last year, and Burns said rather than purchase and place new outdoor furniture prior to winter, they felt it would make more sense to simply wait until spring to do so.
“This was always in the original design,” Burns said.
The original plan was to have one large six-seat table, two square four-seat tables and two sets of small tables with four seats in the pergola, but the commissioners felt that would be too crowded, opting to remove the two sets of small tables and replace them with two sets of two chairs with an end table.
“If someone wants to go out and sit by themselves, it’s a lot more inviting and comfortable than sitting at a table,” Miller said.
According to Lotut, all the furniture will be high-density polyethylene, meaning it will withstand any type of weather and will be easy to clean and wash. That particular material is recycled material.
“It’s very user-friendly,” Lotut said of the furniture.
She also recommended they use stationary chairs rather than swivel or glider chairs.
Miller said the goal was to create an inviting space that wasn’t too full. He said they can always add to it later should they desire to.
In discussing about the color scheme, Lotut suggested going with a natural finish to give the sets a true wood look.
“It also helps hide dirt,” she said, noting coastal gray and driftwood are the best options when it comes to creating a natural look.
The commissioners are hoping to have the furniture in place by the end of April, and Lotut said Berlin Gardens and Kaufman Lawn Furniture will work to offer the furniture at a good price for the county.
