Wayne Sheriff not running in 2024
Travis Hutchinson, closing in on a dozen years as Wayne County sheriff and nearly 50 years in law enforcement, recently announced he will not run for re-election in 2024.
“I have been honored to serve the citizens for nearly a half century in law enforcement,” Hutchinson said. “By the end of 2024, I will have spent 47 years in uniform, with the last 12 years of my tenure spent as your sheriff.
“While it has been my honor to serve you all these many years, I have decided not to seek re-election as your sheriff in 2024.”
Hutchinson’s term will end Jan. 5, 2025.
“I appreciate all the support you have given me over the years, and I thank you for the opportunity to serve,” Hutchinson said. “That said, I am looking forward to retirement and life outside the uniform.”
